the problem with mom's plans

When we moved to our farm last Christmas, I was so excited to finally have a big closet that would contain all our homeschooling stuff.

Yep, this mom and that closet had a great plan.

The problem was, however, schoolish type things at our new farm somehow always ended up happening in our finished basement.

That homeschooling closet? It was on the top floor of the house. Two flights of stairs from where school normally happened.

And so, this past weekend, we moved all the stuff from that school closet and made a spot for it in the basement.

That's the problem with mom's plans. They often end up getting changed.

Plans changing reminds me of the day awhile back that my oldest son was abnormally happy. Jovial. In seriously awesome spirits.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I've just really liked learning this past week", he said.

"Oh?"

"Yeah," he said. "Because...well, everything was planned out."

I'm sure my mouth dropped open.

"What?" I asked.

"Well, I like things better when they are planned out. When I know what is happening. I like plans."

He likes plans? My school plan was to kinda be free of plans.

That's the thing with mom's plans, though. They often end up getting changed. :)

  1. Hahaha, been there myself. When we had a larger house, I had a school room in the basement, but I hated it, because if we were down there, I couldn't be upstairs baking and taking care of other things.
Gotta love "plans may change at any moment".

  2. Love this! It's just the way it goes, isn't it?!

Abby's wanting a little bit more of a schedule as she gets older. So, I bought her a planner and a calendar for her room;) Family events go on her calendar and then when she's feeling the need to get organized, she maps out some activities for herself in her planner. So far, it's working nicely. She only really uses it once or twice a week, but it takes some of the pressure off of me! I definitely don't want our days to be too scheduled.

    1. Funny how different kids can be, isn't it? What a great idea to buy her her own planner and organizer. :)

  4. This made me smile...my kids are kind of the same way, which is very lucky because I'm an over-planner by nature.

It's funny how kids will surprise you. Just when you think you've got them figured out! :-)
